Ment is short for the mentor/mentee relationship that is the foundation of our agency. It also stands for our cornerstones of empowerment, development, advancement, and achievement.

Ment is a marketing and creative agency connecting local businesses to students and students to mentors. Ment provides students with paying marketing/creative jobs and mentorship including portfolio review and assistance with their assigned jobs. While their university provides education, Ment provides experience.

**We don’t currently have an expert to mentor our students in this area. If you or someone you know is interested, give us a shout!

No! We are happy to assist you in assessing your needs and to offer ideas on how to more effectively and creatively advertise your business.

Absolutely! We know how overwhelming it can be to start a business from scratch. But let us help give you a boost with a new website, social media presence, flyers, business cards, etc.

Definitely! Whether you want to tweak your current logo or completely rebrand, let us help give you a fresh start!

Options galore! We will work with you from start to finish so that you are completely satisfied with the finished product. One of our main goals at Ment is to provide students the opportunity to grow their portfolio. Win-win!

If they want! But we recommend waiting until after they graduate. 🙂 Typically, our students are working for us part-time, as they are only supplementing their education with real-world experience.

Additionally, if a student chooses to be hired by a company, they will have to leave the Ment team, though we wish them the best! One of the main goals of Ment is to mentor students before they enter their professional career. So if they are being hired, we have done our job and are no longer needed!

Great question! And one that’s been debated for decades among marketing agencies.

Did you know that CocaCola & Pepsi used the same marketing agency? Yep! Same one as AT&T & Verizon. And Apple & Google. Their agency avoids conflict of interest ethics by splitting up their employees to work on the different accounts (on top of being sworn not to divulge trade secrets and strategies of the competition).

Because Ment does not offer competitive analysis or any other opportunities to divulge secrets, we don’t see conflict of interest as a problem in our agency.  Our clients will simply receive the services paid for, with no opportunity for favoritism. However, at a client’s request, Ment will use a tactic similar to the example above and will assign different students to clients with similar businesses.

Can you offer businesses a creative service not mentioned above? Let us know!

Yes! While one of the main goals of Ment is to provide students an opportunity to get real world experience, we also know you need to make money!

There will occasionally be opportunity to work pro bono for a non-profit (great way to grow that portfolio), but it is entirely your choice to do so if desired.

None at all! The goal of Ment is to provide students an opportunity to gain real world experience and grow their portfolio before starting their full-time career.

If you have the passion and the natural talent, we want you to join our team regardless of experience. Our mentors will help you along the way.

Sure! But we definitely encourage our students to prioritize their studies.

Occasionally. When you apply, you will select which areas you are most comfortable, which areas you would prefer working, and which areas you are not necessarily good at, but are interested. Ment will attempt to distribute jobs as accurately and fairly as possible. And if you attend the team meetings regularly, you are able to provide even more input on the projects you prefer.

It’s up to you! Ment allows you the flexibility to work when you want. If you’re a night owl, hoot away. (My own personal creative prime time is between 10pm and 3am.) If you need to go out of town or work on weekends, go right ahead. Just don’t forget a laptop!

This structure (or lack thereof) allows you the ability to work as you might when/if you start your own business.

Yes and no. When you are working on your own or at our informal team meetings, you can wear whatever you’d like, pajamas even. But when meeting with clients, we ask that all team members wear a Ment branded black top. To provide you more freedom, you may purchase the black top of your choice (*hint hint* Ross & TJMaxx are your friends). Ment will cover the cost of embroidery.

Both. But mainly by yourself. At Ment, we want to mimic the freelance real world as much as possible. At the same time, we call ourselves a team for a reason. We provide mentorship and guidance as you work your way up to becoming a full-time freelancer. This includes brainstorming sessions and collaboration at team meetings. Students may also choose to work with a partner or group on a larger project if mutually agreeable.

Team meetings are designed to:

  • discuss upcoming projects and deadlines
  • brainstorm current projects if you are having a “creative block”
  • give company updates
  • socialize with fellow creative peers and greet new hires
  • learn from guest speakers & mentors
  • eat free food

No! Our Mentors / Project Coordinators are spread across the United States and we meet via Zoom weekly as a team.

No worries! Meeting with clients is an important part of your potential freelance career, so we encourage all of our students to engage. For the first few times, you can choose to observe your mentor at the meeting so that you can get a feel for it. And even after that, we will still be here if you need us.

Great job getting a head start, but Ment currently only accepts job applications from college students.

However, we will occasionally have events that are open to the public including high school students. These events are a great opportunity to hear guest speakers who are experts in their creative field. Follow us on social media to stay up-to-date with all of our upcoming opportunities.
